The snake-eagles eat reptiles including poisonous ones. The scales on the legs may give protection against snakebite. Slideshow photos 1 & 2 show a brown eagle ensnared by a black spitting cobra, courtesy of Abby Olemisiko (click left lower image to see). The birds in flight were seen in Selous (left, 7-11), courtesy of Shaun Wells and Mambo viewpoint (10-11), courtesy of Valéry Schollaert. The left 3rd row photo was taken at Lake Manyara; the rest, at Tarangire.
